Three teenage boys have been charged with robbing a gas station with a BB gun early Friday in northwest suburban Woodstock.

Police were called at 3:36 a.m. for reports of an armed robbery at the Shell gas station at 315 N. Madison St., according to a statement from Woodstock police. Upon further investigation, they identified the suspects as three teenage boys, ages 14, 15 and 17.

Members of the Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team executed a search warrant on the 15-year-old’s home in the 700 block of Prairie View Lane in Woodstock, police said. The three boys were found inside the apartment and taken into custody without incident.

The weapon used in the robbery was later found on the roof of a business near the gas station, police said. It turned out to be a toy BB gun.

Each of the three suspects has been charged with a Class 1 felony count of aggravated robbery, according to police. They are being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles pending a detention hearing.
