A 17-year-old boy was shot in the Lawndale neighborhood Thursday afternoon on the Southwest Side.

About 1:45 p.m., the boy was standing in a vacant lot near the 1200 block of South Avers when he heard gunshots and realized he’d been struck in the left leg, according to Chicago Police.

He later showed up at Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Police said the boy has documented gang ties, and that he was not not cooperating with investigators.
