A 29-year-old North Side man died Friday night after falling two stories from a railing to the pavement below on opening night of the three-day Chicago Open Air Festival at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.

Robert Smucz was watching the concert on the mezzanine level of the outdoor stadium at 7000 S. Harlem Ave. just after 10 p.m. when he fell, according to city spokesman Ray Hanania.

He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn less than an hour later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which found he died of multiple injuries from an accidental fall. He lived in the 4500 block of North Campbell Avenue.

Visitation for Smucz is planned from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles, with a funeral there at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by burial at Maryhill Cemetery. Survivors include his mother, Eugenia Smucz; his girlfriend, Alicia Morales; and a sister, Monica Hendrickson.
