A man has been charged with breaking into a house and beating the resident Tuesday morning in northwest suburban Elgin.

Maurice D. Wilson, 19, and several other people kicked in the front door of the victim’s home in the 0-100 block of Garden Crescent Court in Elgin about 6 a.m., according to a statement from Elgin police. They then beat and kicked the victim, who called police after the attackers ran away.

The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Wilson, who lives in the 100 block of Hilltop Drive in Lake in the Hills, police said.

He was charged with one Class X felony count of home invasion and ordered held on a $10,000 bond Saturday, according to police and the Kane County sheriff’s office.
