Overnight lane and ramp closures scheduled to take place over the weekend on the westbound Kennedy Expressway and westbound Congress Parkway will instead occur overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The closures are necessary to switch traffic onto newly constructed pavement on the westbound Eisenhower from the Congress viaduct to Halsted Street, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The weekend closures were postponed due to inclement weather.
Starting just before midnight Monday, the westbound Eisenhower/Congress will be reduced to one lane from Wells Street to Halsted Street, IDOT said. The entrance ramp from Wacker Drive to the westbound Eisenhower will also be closed.
By 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, the westbound Eisenhower/Congress will be fully closed from Wells to Halsted, IDOT said. A detour will direct traffic to go southbound on Wells, west on Harrison, south on Desplaines, west on Roosevelt and north on Ashland to enter the westbound Ike.
The stage change is expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Tuesday, IDOT said.
