A woman was fatally struck by a CTA Red Line train Tuesday afternoon on the Near North Side.

Ann Fritzsche, 48, was struck by a northbound train at the Grand station at 521 N. State St., according to Fire Media Affairs and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Fritzsche, of the River North neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy Wednesday found she died of multiple injuries and her death was ruled a suicide.

The train conductor, who was “a little distraught,” was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for observation, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
