An elderly man has died more than two months after he was involved in a crash in north suburban Morton Grove.
David Cohen, 86, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice at 7:35 a.m. May 17 in the outside lane of the 7000 block of Golf Road when he left the roadway, striking a concrete post in front of a Popeyes Chicken, then two sign poles at a Mobil gas station, according to Morton Grove police.
Cohen told police his vehicle accelerated on its own and he couldn’t stop it, police said. He was treated for head and neck pain at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Cohen, a Morton Grove resident, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Rainbow Hospice, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy Thursday found he died of complications of blunt force injuries to the torso from a motor vehicle striking fixed objects, according to the medical examiner’s office. Heart disease was listed as a contributing factor, and his death was ruled an accident.
