A man was shot Friday night in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

About 7:55 p.m., the 29-year-old was sitting in front of a home in the 1100 block of North Lockwood when someone walked up to him and fired shots, Chicago Police said.

He was struck in the in his lower back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Police initially reported the victim was a woman.
