A downstate man was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon on the Veterans Memorial Tollway in southwest suburban New Lenox.

Serghei Balinc, 33, was driving a semi south about 3:20 p.m. on I-355 when the trailer’s load shifted and the truck hit a barrier and overturned on the ramp to eastbound I-80, according to Illinois State Police and the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Balinc, who lived in downstate Ewing, was dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said.

The eastbound I-80 ramp was shut down for several hours for an investigation, police said.
