Man fatally shot in Merrillville

An 18-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday in Merrillville in northwest Indiana.

About 3:15 a.m., authorities were called to the 5400 block of Maryland Street and found Jeremiah Simon with gunshot wounds, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

He was pronounced dead about 4:05 a.m., the coroner’s office said. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine his official cause of death.

Merrillville police were not available to comment on the man’s death Wednesday morning.
