Illinois has signed an agreement to make it easier for architects licensed by the states to practice in Canada
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced the “mutual recognition agreement” Friday.
Secretary Bryan Schneider says it streamlines the licensing process for Illinois architects who meet standards set by the National Council of Architecture Registration Board. The pact also expedites licensing for Canadians working in Illinois.
Schneider says the agreement improves architects’ mobility and advances technical education and knowledge-sharing.
The national registration board reached a deal in 2013 with its Canadian counterpart. That cleared the way for individual states to seal their own agreements.
