A man was killed and another wounded Sunday evening in a shooting in south suburban Lansing.

Officers were called about 7:20 p.m. for reports of gunfire in a parking lot in the 2100 block of 175th Street, Lansing police said in a statement.

When officers arrived, police received a call from one of the gunshot victims who had driven to the parking lot of a nearby American Sale store, police said.

Paramedics responded to that parking lot and found two men with gunshot wounds, police said.

Terrence Welch, 35, was taken to Franciscan Health in Hammond and pronounced dead, police and the Lake County coroner’s office said. The other man was treated and released from Munster Community Hospital.

An investigation revealed that the men met with the suspected shooter in a nearby parking lot, police said. The suspect tried to rob Welch at gunpoint and fired shots.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lansing police at 708-895-7150.
