6 wounded Wednesday in Chicago shootings

Six people were injured Wednesday in citywide shootings.

The day’s latest shooting happened in Gresham on the South Side.

A 30-year-old man was on a sidewalk about 8:44 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Halsted Street when someone opened fire, Chicago police said. The man was hit in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

Earlier in the evening, a man was hurt in a drive-by in Englewood on the South Side.

About 6:54 p.m., the 42-year-old was in the 6700 block of South Ada Street when an unknown vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, police said. The man was hit in the shoulder and taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.

Farther south, a man was shot multiple times in Roseland.

He was walking through an alley about 6:17 p.m. in the 100 block of East 104th Street when two people exited a vehicle and fired shots, police said.

The 28-year-old was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with three gunshot wounds to the buttocks, police said. His condition was stabilized.

A man was shot Wednesday afternoon in Austin on the West Side.

The 38-year-old was standing on the sidewalk about 2:40 p.m. when he got into an argument with someone in a vehicle in the 800 block of North Leclaire Avenue, according to police.

During the argument, the suspect in the vehicle pulled out a handgun and fired shots at the man, police said. The vehicle then drove off in an unknown direction.

The man was struck in the lower right leg and declined medical treatment at the scene, according to police.

Over 12 hours earlier in Austin, an 18-year-old man was found seriously wounded by gunfire.

About 2:10 a.m., officers responded to calls of shots fired in the 4800 block of West Ohio Street and found the man with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and back, police said. He was rushed to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

In the day’s first reported shooting, an 18-year-old man was shot in Lawndale on the West Side.

About 12:35 a.m., the man was in the 600 block of South Kedvale Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt a pain, police said. He was struck in the groin and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

Six people were shot in Chicago on Tuesday as well, with one fatality as a result.
