A man was shot Thursday after a group of three males broke into his South Shore apartment and forced him and his girlfriend out of bed.

The man, 38, and his girlfriend, 37, were in bed about 2:15 a.m. in the apartment in the 7800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue when three males broke in, Chicago police said. The males forced the couple out of bed, leading to a brief struggle which ended with the 38-year-old being shot in the back by one of the suspects.

The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, police said. His girlfriend was not injured in the incident.

No property seems to have been stolen from the apartment, police said.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
