A 36-year-old man was shot and killed Monday afternoon at a South Side gas station, according to police.
He was in the 7000 block of South State Street when a gunman came up at 12:50 p.m. and fired shots, striking him in the chest and groin, Chicago police said in a statement.
A BP gas station is located in that block.
The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Terrell McCambry, of Roseland. An autopsy released Tuesday ruled his death a homicide, saying he died of his injuries.
No arrest has been made.
In 2017, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the same block. Later that year, a teenage woman was grazed by a bullet.
The 3rd police district — which covers Park Manor, Woodlawn and South Shore — has seen 170 shootings and 36 murders so far this year through Oct. 11, according to police statistics. That’s an 81% increase in shootings and 38% increase in murders compared to the same period in 2019.
