Man fatally shot in Brainerd

The 64-year-old was talking to someone he knew in a car in the 9000 block of South Laflin Street when shots were fired, police said.

A man was killed in a shooting Sunday in Brainerd on the South Side.

About 6:15 p.m., the 64-year-old was talking to someone he knew in a car in the 9000 block of South Laflin Street when shots were fired, Chicago police said.

The man was struck in the face and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was identified as Lawrence McNeal, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
