No one is in custody after a 31-year-old woman was shot and killed Sunday morning during an argument in Lawndale on the West Side, according to police.

About 6 a.m., officers found Vanessa Thomas lying face down and unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the 1500 block of South Komensky Avenue, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told officers that she was shot after a “dispute” with a 34-year-old man, police said. He left the area before officers arrived.

An autopsy found she died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled her death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.
