Captain Brian McBride wasn’t in the starting lineup for Saturday’s 2-0 win at D.C. United. This was coach Carlos de los Cobos’ explanation in his post-game interview.
“I wanted to strengthen our midfield. When you have three forwards it can soften the team sometimes, it can suffer. The offensive side of the game depends on how many players arrive into the box in any situation. In this situation we played with one forwards and had four-five chances to score in the first half and it was good for us.”
McBride was inserted in the second half and scored his second goal of the season, helping the Fire to its first win.
“Brian is a great professional, and he has a great attitude,” said de los Cobos. “He came on the field to help the team. Henot only scored his goal, but he helped his team with his collective play.”
