James wins final Bulls roster spot

Mike James won the final spot on the roster Saturday, as the Bulls announced that both Dexter Pittman and D.J. White were waived.

In keeping a veteran guard like James, the front office obviously made the decision that with Derrick Rose coming back from being 18 months off because of his surgically-repaired torn left anterior cruciate ligament, as well as the injury concerns for Kirk Hinrich, the team needed a proven insurance policy in James.

Second-year point guard Marquis Teague showed some signs of creeping into the rotation in the preseason, but is still a work in progress.

Entering his 12th season, James can play either guard spot, after spending last season with the Dallas Mavericks.

James only played 3.8 minutes per game in the preseason, averaging 1.2 points per game, but has a tough mindedness that coach Tom Thibodeau embraces.
