A man was shot to death early Wednesday morning in the New City neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

Officers found the 18-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head in the 5400 block of South Laflin about 7:35 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man is a documented gang member and the shooting is thought to be gang-related.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
