Illinois on Monday reported less than a thousand new daily cases of COVID-19 for the first time in two months and the fewest number of deaths in 49 days.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said there were 946 new confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 on Monday, with six deaths recorded — the fewest number of documented deaths since March 29.
The latest data brings the state’s death count to 22,445, out of 1,367,214 reported cases. Monday’s figures come from 33,148 tests as the state’s seven-day positivity rate remained at 2.4% for the second day in a row.
As of Sunday night, 1,512 people were in Illinois hospitals, being treated for COVID-19. Of those, 398 patients were in the ICU and 220 patients were on ventilators.
State health officials also said 32,253 vaccine doses were administered Sunday.
More than 64% of people in the state have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine; in all, about 61,275 doses were administered. The state has given 10.4 million vaccine doses so far.
