One man was killed and two people injured in a shooting on Interstate 55 near Midway.

About 1:55 a.m. Saturday, shots were fired into a vehicle in the northbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway near Cicero Avenue, Illinois State Police said.

The driver, 27-year-old Omar Chacon, was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy released Sunday said he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, and his condition was stabilized, police said. A female passenger, 19, was shot and seriously injured. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Traffic was diverted for hours on the northbound lanes of the Stevenson near Harlem Avenue as police investigated the shooting, police said. All lanes were reopened about 7:30 a.m.

Additional details were not immediately available.

A Cicero police officer was shot late last year on the ramp to southbound I-55.
