A man was struck and killed by a CTA bus in the Canaryville neighborhood on the South Side Monday night.

About 9:06 p.m., 62-year-old Erroll D. Ellison was in the 4300 block of South Halsted when he “possibly tripped off the sidewalk” and was hit by a CTA bus traveling north, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Ellison, of the 4200 block of South Princeton, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m., authorities said.

The police Major Accidents Investigations Unit is handling the case, police said.
