An underground vault fire has closed a stretch of Washington Street in the Loop to traffic Thursday morning.

The blaze was reported at 9:04 a.m. in an underground vault at LaSalle and Washington, according to Chicago Police.

The Chicago Fire Department and ComEd are at the scene, police said.

Washington is closed to traffic in the area, and part of LaSalle Street is also closed. CTA No. 156 LaSalle and No. J14 Jeffery Jump buses are rerouted in both directions.
