Steppenwolf ensemble member and noted film actor John Malkovich has just locked up a recent movie project.

Literally.

The film, “100 Years — The Movie You Will Never See,” a collaboration with director Robert Rodriguez, will not be screened until Nov. 18, 2115. However, certain Cannes festivalgoers can catch a glimpse of the physical film itself as it’s on display in a safe in the invitation-only Louis XIII Suite members’ club at the Hôtel Le Majestic Barrière.

“The concept was that we would make a film that wouldn’t be seen for a hundred years,” said Malkovich in a teaser trailer for the movie, which he also wrote. “Part of the notion inherent in this is for us to try and imagine what the world will be like in 100 years.”

“I was intrigued by the concept of working on a film that nobody would ever see in my lifetime,” Rodriguez says in the same trailer. “I wanted it to be a work of art that is enjoyed in a hundred years.”

According to the film’s description on YouTube: “This film project was inspired by the legacy of craftsmanship and time it takes to create LOUIS XIII Cognac. LOUIS XIII is ‘One century in a bottle’ — each decanter takes four generations of cellar masters over 100 years to craft.”

Hmmm. Is there truly a film inside that canister? What if the hotel closes, say, 75 years from now? What if someone forgets the combination?

Pass the cognac, please.
