Jeffrey John MacDonald | Palatine police

A body pulled from Lake Michigan last week near Grant Park has been identified as a missing Palatine man.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit responded about 6:30 a.m. April 25 to a call of a person in the water in the 500 block of South Lake Shore Drive, police said.

The body of 59-year-old Jeffrey John MacDonald was pulled from the water, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was dead at the scene.

MacDonald was reported missing after he was last seen at a TCF Bank in Shorewood on Feb. 25 after leaving his home in the 0-100 block of West King Henry Court in Palatine, authorities said at the time.

His family told police MacDonald has been distressed about “personal matters and they fear for his safety,” Palatine police said.

An autopsy did not rule on MacDonald’s cause and manner of death pending further investigation.
