Man shot in Washington Park

A man was shot early Sunday in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

The 21-year-old man was waiting in his vehicle to buy drugs in the 5900 block of South Lafayette about 12:10 a.m. when two males walked up and one of them punched him in the face and took his cell phone, police said.

The victim tried to drive off and one of the males fired shots, striking him in the leg, police said. He drove to the 5500 block of South King Drive and called police.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
