No bail for man charged with kidnapping, raping, robbing woman

A Humboldt Park man was being held without bail for allegedly kidnapping and brutally raping a woman after she left a party at the Godfrey Hotel.

The woman’s terrifying ordeal allegedly ended with her assailant dropping her off at home, giving her some of the cash he stole with her ATM card, putting his number in her cellphone and telling her “we can work things out,” records show.

Daniel Garcia, 27, of the 3200 block of West Evergreen, was charged with kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual assault and vehicular hijacking, according to court records.

The 29-year-old victim attended a fashion show Friday and then went to an after-party at the Godfrey, according to a police report. She and a male companion later left and stopped at a gas station in the 4000 block of North Pulaski.

Assistant State’s Attorney Alex Molesky said the man, who was driving, got out of the car, leaving the woman behind. That’s when Garcia allegedly got in the car and drove away.

The woman told him to stop and tried to grab the steering wheel, Molesky said, but Garcia allegedly punched her in the face.

He also told her “we have him in the trunk,”and “I got guys following,” and claimed to be in a cartel, according to a police report. Molesky also said Garcia told the victim he was supposed to kill her.

Eventually, Molesky said, Garcia stopped the car and raped the woman.

Later, the prosecutor said Garcia went to a bank, where he used the woman’s debit card and PIN to withdraw money from her bank account. He took out $100, according to a police report, but he gave the victim $60 after she told him she needed it for rent.

Garcia then drove the woman home using the vehicle’s GPS, Molesky said, giving the woman her phone and placing his number in it. He also told her he would return the next day to drop off her car before he drove away with it, the prosecutor said.

He told the woman “we can work things out” and “I’ll see you tomorrow,” according to the police report.

The woman immediately told a relative what happened. Garcia was pulled over while driving her car. He also had her companion’s cellphone with him, and Molesky said the victim identified Garcia in a lineup.
