A man who was seriously wounded in an early December shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood died Tuesday.

Marrecus Garrett, 34, was shot Dec. 10 at 8:45 a.m. in the 6800 block of South Talman, police said. Garrett was shot multiple times in the upper body.

Garrett, who lived in the same block where he was shot, took himself to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead Tuesday at 6:51 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found Garrett died from multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.
