SHARE 1-year-old girl drowns at Englewood home

A 1-year-old girl drowned Wednesday at her home in the Englewood neighborhood, authorities said Thursday.

Rescue workers arrived at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday to find Alonah Smith dead in the home in the 6600 block of South Aberdeen, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy showed Alonah drowned accidentally, the medical examiner’s office said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating, spokeswoman Veronica Resa said.
