Obama’s video wins an Emmy, meaning POTUS has half an EGOT

Forget about that Nobel Peace Prize; President Barack Obama won an Emmy over the weekend. Sort of.

Zach Galifianakis’ humorous interview with Obama on the actor’s “Between Two Ferns” show was christened Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program at the creative arts Emmy ceremony Saturday in Los Angeles. The “Between Two Ferns” series airs on the Funny or Die website.

Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis: President Barack Obama from President Barack Obama The Funny or Die digital short beat out the likes of Adult Swim’s “Childrens Hospital,” the Super Bowl Halftime Show with Bruno Mars, “Parks and Recreation in Europe” and “The Soup’s” parody of “True Detective.”

The awards were handed out at the creative arts Emmy ceremony honoring technical and other achievements — like the lower-profile categories they can’t cram into the Aug. 25 primetime show on NBC.

Obama didn’t actually get any hardware, but we’ll let him add Emmy bragging rights to his pair of Grammy Awards. While serving as a U.S. Senator, Obama won two Best Spoken Word Grammys for the audiobooks “Dreams of My Father” (2006) and “The Audacity of Hope” (2008).

If he can manage to snag an Oscar and a Tony, he’ll join the elite club of EGOT members who lay claim to all four awards.

Obama wasn’t the only former Chicagoan to be honored at the recent Emmy ceremony. Dolton native Jane Lynch won as best host for a reality or reality-competition program for her helming of NBC’s “Hollywood Game Night.”
