A 20-year-old man was killed in a crash Wednesday evening in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

Christian Ramirez, 20, was driving at “a high rate of speed” in the 4500 block of West Cermak when he crashed into a bridge support barrier about 7 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A second vehicle struck Ramirez’s vehicle, then spun into the westbound lanes of Cermak and was struck by a third vehicle, police said.

Ramirez, of the 6800 block of 33rd Street in Berwyn, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he died at 7:32 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

The occupants of the second vehicle — two males, a female and an infant — ran away after the crash and have not been located, police said. The driver of the third vehicle did not suffer any major injuries.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
