More than 200 of the city’s snow plows and salt spreaders were redeployed Monday morning after about 3 three inches of snow piled up on parts of the Chicago area late Sunday.

As of 6:45 a.m., 2.9 inches of snow were recorded at O’Hare International Airport from Sunday’s snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The fleet was sent out to neighborhood streets starting about 5 a.m., according to a statement from the Department of Streets and Sanitation. The crew had worked from Sunday evening into the overnight hours to clear arterial routes and Lake Shore Drive.

A lake effect pattern could bring more snow to the area late afternoon into the evening, but only a “light accumulation” in a band extending from Lake and Porter counties in Indiana to Cook County, forecasters said. Chicago has a 30 percent chance of snow showers.

The high temperature Monday is expected to be 23 degrees, with highs in the teens on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the weather service. Temperatures rebound late in the week, with a forecasted high of 26 on Thursday and 33 on Friday.
