A man crashed his Mercedes Friday night after he was shot while driving in the West Loop.

About 9:30 p.m., the man, 33, was stopped at a stop light in the 1000 block of West Congress Parkway when shots were fired from a light-colored vehicle, police said.

He was shot in the head and leg and drove to the 500 block of West Van Buren, where he crashed, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said

A silver Mercedes sports car that crashed at the scene of the shooting was being checked by police for evidence.

Witness Enrique Camacho, a cook at an Indian restaurant at Jefferson and Van Buren, said he was about to leave work when he heard a loud noise — he thinks a gunshot — and then a loud crash when the Mercedes crashed into a building.

The driver of the Mercedes was bleeding, he said. And Camacho, 26, said his parked Nissan was side-swiped in the accident.

Further details weren’t immediately available.
