Even as a northwest suburban pet rescue tries to find a home for a young boxer puppy, police are trying to find who abandoned the dog inside a pillowcase.

The puppy, a male boxer or boxer mix believed to be 5 weeks old, was found inside a pillowcase, which had been secured with duct tape abandoned along Route 14 in Woodstock, according to Woodstock police.

Police were called to a report that the dog had been left in the 11500 block of U.S. 14 and found the puppy.

“The dog is currently doing well,” according to a statement from police. He was taken to the Hoof, Woof and Meow Animal Rescue on East Higgins Road in Gilberts. The shelter is accepting applications for adoption for the pup they’ve named Woodstock, though he won’t be ready to adopt for at least three weeks.

“We have christened him Woodstock” and he is “doing well,” a post on the Hoof Woof and Meow Facebook page said. “His dedicated foster momma was up several times during the night to feed and comfort him. We are accepting applications and will pick the one we feel is the best home for him.”

Hoof Woof and Meow’s owners also lashed out at whoever abandoned the dog: “To the POS that tossed this puppy into a pillowcase and duct taped it shut, then threw him out on Route 14 by the Farm and Fleet to die of exposure on this very cold and rainy night … There is a special place in hell for you!,” the Facebook post said.

“He was starving, as it has been many hours since his last meal, and he is being kept warm to stop his shivering. Time for him to rest now that he is safe.”

Anyone interested in adopting the puppy can call (847) 836-7387.

Anyone with information about who might have dumped the dog along the road should call police at (815) 338-2131 or (815) 338-6120.
