Jim McMahon might not have been the smoothest rapper of all the 1985 Chicago Bears who participated in the “Super Bowl Shuffle” track that was released three months prior to winning the Super Bowl in 1986. But he is arguably the most memorable.

McMahon rapped:

I’m the punky QB, known as McMahon. When I hit the turf, I’ve got no plan. I just throw my body all over the field. I can’t dance, but I can throw the pill. I motivate the cats, I like to tease. I play so cool, I aim to please. That’s why you all got here on the double To catch me doin’ the Super Bowl Shuffle.

With “Straight Outta Compton” — the story of Ice Cube and N.W.A — being released in theaters this week, Ice Cube sat down with his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. and judged some of the athlete rappers of the past for ESPN.

“Now, come on, Jim McMahon Super Bowl Shuffle. Come on, man,” Ice Cube said. “I’m going to give this a whack already. I love Jim McMahon.”

“Drop that. Drop that. I need it,” Jackson Jr. said.

“Wow,” Ice Cube said disapprovingly.

“That’s not hot?,” Jackson Jr. asked.

“The beats of 1985. You have to give points for cockiness,” Ice Cube said. “You know what I mean. Jim McMahon, you get the cocky point. But the Punky QB? Everybody, keep your day job.”
