Three firefighters hospitalized as a precaution after fighting a basement fire Friday in the Far South Side Morgan Park neighborhood are in good condition, officials said.

Crews were called to the fire in the home near 113th and Elizabeth streets about 2:30 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

The fire started in a finished basement with several rooms, and one firefighter got lost in the smoke, Roccasalva said.

He ran out of air and made a “mayday” call for help. He got out of the building, and was taken in as a precaution to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Roccasalva said.

Two other firefighters were taken to Roseland Community Hospital, also as a precaution, Roccasalva said. All three are in good condition.

No one else was injured and the fire remains under investigation.
