There isn’t normally this much action going on outside of Wrigley Field a few months before Opening Day. But with all of the Cubs construction surrounding the stadium, things are about to change drastically.
One of the biggest Wrigleyville staples over the decades is the McDonald’s on Waveland Ave. just north of Clark. However, starting March 1, fans will have to go a bit farther for their burgers.
From DNAinfo:
Team officials told vendors and crowd control and other staff the closing is set for March 1. A McDonald’s employee confirmed on Thursday their last day would be Feb. 29. Ald. Tom Tunney’s (44th) office said the restaurant would be closing in March, but the exact date had not been disclosed.
Replacing McDonald’s and the Cubs Store next door will be a hotel. Once finished, the McDonald’s will reopen inside the building.
Since construction concluded last season on the bleachers, the main focus has been towards the office building directly next to Wrigley Field and the team’s clubhouse. The Clubhouse is expected to be ready by the time the Cubs return home for the start of the season.
According to the Cubs, the hotel will include 180 rooms, retail and restaurant options throughout the calendar year. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2018.
