At least six aggravated vehicular hijackings have occurred on the West Side in recent weeks, prompting a community alert from police.

According to Area North detectives, the carjackings occurred:

-about 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the 3600 block of West Schraeder Drive in Garfield Park;

-about 1:08 p.m. on Aug. 25 in the 3600 block of West Schraeder Drive in Garfield Park;

-about 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 26 in the 3800 block of West Lake;

-about 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 27 in the 3500 block of West Schraeder in Garfield Park;

-about 9 p.m. on Aug. 29 in the 3800 block of West Harrison;

-about 5:50 a.m. on Sept. 3 in the 4600 block of West Adams.

In each case, people were in their vehicles when one or more men walked up, showed a handgun and demanded the victim’s vehicle, police said. Suspects were described as black men between 20 and 30 years old, standing between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-1 and weighing between 180 and 250 pounds.
