A man was shot Thursday evening in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 20-year-old was walking about 6:45 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Race when he heard gunfire and realized he’d been shot in the left leg, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
