A man was struck and killed by a Metra train during the Monday evening rush in northwest suburban Elgin.

About 6:20 p.m., the pedestrian was struck by inbound Train 2237 about a mile north of the Elgin station, according Metra and Elgin police.

Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said the man was homeless, and his office has been unable to find his family, so his name was not being released Wednesday.

The death appears to be accidental, Russell said.
