Bears safety Eddie Jackson has sprained ankle, isn’t practicing

Pro Bowl safety Eddie Jackson was held out of practice Wednesday after testing reaffirmed that he sprained his right ankle Sunday when intercepting Aaron Rodgers.

The Bears will be cautious about his return, knowing that the playoffs take precedence over either of their last two regular-season games.

“We’ll just have to see,” coach Matt Nagy said. “No. 1, see the rest of this week where he’s at pain-wise, where he’s at with his health. And then we’ve got to take into consideration our situation and where we’re at.”

Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch also sat out after spraining his right elbow Sunday.

Nagy reiterated that he didn’t believe either injury was season-ending.

“I feel cautiously optimistic about all that, but all these things take time,” Nagy said. “These athletes are all different.”

No Long yet

Guard Kyle Long (right foot) was eligible to return to practice for the first time since being put on injured reserve Nov. 3.

He didn’t practice, but Nagy said there was a chance he could later in the week.

According to league rules, Long can’t return to game action until the season finale at the earliest.

Long had his walking boot removed early last week.

“I know he’s eager to get back out there,” quarterback Mitch Trubisky said. “And we’re going to be happy to have him when he’s ready. I think he’ll make the offense that much better.”
