A young child was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The 2-year-old boy was hit about 5:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Damen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Paramedics took him to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he died at 9:45 p.m., authorities said.

The boy was identified as Kiare Woods, of the Gresham neighborhood, the medical examiner’s office said.

A woman was also injured in the crash, police said. Her condition was stabilized.

The driver of the vehicle, a 69-year-old woman, was issued two traffic citations for failing to yield to a pedestrian, police said.

The Major Accidents Unit was investigating the crash.

Police initially said the boy was 3 years old.
