A passenger was killed and a driver was hurt when they were thrown from a motorcycle Monday morning in North Barrington.

Deputies responded at 11:57 a.m. to the crash near Miller and Oak Hills roads when 62-year-old Mount Prospect man lost control of the motorcycle and struck the curb as he approached a curve on Miller Road, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle and taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, the sheriff’s office said. Both were wearing helmets in the crash.

The passenger, identified as 62-year-old Deborah Platz of Mount Prospect, was pronounced dead, authorities said. The driver was treated and released.

An autopsy performed Tuesday found Platz died of multiple traumatic injuries she suffered as a result of the crash, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.

The crash was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
