A woman shot a man in self defense Sunday morning at a luxury apartment in the South Loop.

The pair was arguing at 10:54 a.m. in an apartment in the 1000 block of South Clark when the man started battering the woman, according to Chicago police. The woman then opened fire, striking the attacker in the leg.

The shooting happened on the 26th Floor of the luxury apartments “1000 South Clark,” according to a neighbor who asked not to be named.

The 30-year-old man was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said. The 29-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital after suffering a broken hand, bruises and lacerations.

The man, who appears to have been shot in self defense, was arrested, police said. Charges against him were pending Monday night.

Area Central Detectives are investigating.
