A man died after he was run over by the boat trailer he was inspecting last month in northwest Indiana.

David Laux Sr. was a passenger in a truck that was hauling a boat in Crown Point on March 22, Crown Point police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The truck pulled over on a hill in the 800 block of Carol Drive, and Laux got out to inspect the boat, authorities said.

Police said he had crawled under the trailer at 2:40 p.m. when the truck rolled backward on his chest.

Laux, who lived in Valparaiso, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, the medical examiner’s office said. He died over a week later on Sunday.

An autopsy found he died of complications from multiple injuries from a “motor vehicle striking a pedestrian.” His death was ruled accidental.

No citations were issued and no other injuries were reported, police said.
