A 93-year-old man was killed in a crash Wednesday in south suburban Matteson.
Officers responded to the crash about 11:38 a.m. at the intersection of Vollmer Road and Odyssey Boulevard, according to Matteson police.
They found a 2016 Jeep with heavy damage to its front end in the intersection, and a 2014 Kia off the road with damage to its driver’s side, police said.
Fire department crews extricated the driver of the Kia and he was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
He was identified as Shawkat Rafati of Tinley Park, police said. An autopsy ruled Rafati’s death an accident, saying he died of injuries suffered in the crash.
The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.
Matteson police are investigating.
