Illinois has fully vaccinated nearly half of its adult population, with 65% of adults receiving at least one dose, state health officials reported on Sunday.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 48% of adults in Illinois are fully vaccinated, as the state averages 75,546 vaccines administered daily, with 60,746 shots given out Saturday.
Another 24 people have died from COVID-19, according to the health department, bringing the state’s total death toll to 22,623 individuals.
Also on Sunday the state reported 943 new, confirmed coronavirus cases, marking the second time in a week the statewide tally had tipped below 1,000.
The new cases were detected among the 49,200 tests the state has processed within the past day — making the positivity rate 2.2%.
Nine of those deaths reported Sunday were from Cook County; all were in their 60s, or older; the oldest were a man and a woman in their 90s.
Officials said 1,417 Illinoisans are currently hospitalized with the virus, including 343 in intensive-care units, and 195 on ventilators.
