A woman was fatally shot early Sunday in north suburban Zion, according to police.

The 21-year-old was in a vehicle in an alley in the 2300 block of Jethro Avenue when someone shot her once in the abdomen, according to Christopher Covelli, spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

About 4:30 a.m., she was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Zion police said in a statement. She died about 1:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Detectives believe the woman, whose name has been been released, was targeted in the shooting, Covelli said.

“We do not believe there is a threat to the community at large,” he said.

No arrests have been made.
