Does anybody really know what year it is? The band Chicago will as it headlines the elaborate new outdoor celebration Chi-Town Rising on New Year’s Eve.

Organizers of the extravaganza announced Thursday that the Grammy-winning hitmakers behind “Saturday in the Park” and “25 or 6 to 4” will perform a midnight concert on a stage in front of the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker.

Before that, the alt-rock band American Authors will perform during the final hour of 2015 as part of a live broadcast on WMAQ-Channel 5 and WSNS-Channel 44. The event will peak with the ascent of a 70-foot Chicago star on the Hyatt to ring in 2016.

Other musical acts will take the stage starting at 8 p.m., and a fireworks display synced to the Navy Pier pyrotechnics also is planned.

The broadcast will feature musical performances, a dazzling countdown with a 70-foot tall Chicago Star rising 360-feet into the night sky, and an epic fireworks display linking the event site with Navy Pier’s annual fireworks in one grand display synchronized to a musical soundtrack.
